The Sulphuric Acid REACH Consortium
In early 2007 ESA members committed to preparing for the successful registration for sulphuric acid, sulphur trioxide and sulphur dioxide.
In order to facilitate compliance with the new regulations, an ESA REACH Steering Committee was formed to manage establishment of a consortium for sulphuric acid, sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide, to ensure relevant exchange of information on hazards, uses and exposure of these substances.
At its meeting of 27 November 2008 the ESA REACH Steering Committee was disbanded and reformed as the Sulphuric Acid REACH Consortium, which was independent of ESA. Its aim was to register sulphuric acid, sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide under REACH. Thus ESA was no longer responsible for the Consortium or the Registration under REACH for these products.
Organisation of the consortium
A UK company TSG was appointed as Project Manager of the Consortium and handled the management and daily operations.
The lead registrants for the joint dossier submissions were two German companies, LANXESS (for SO3 & H2SO4) and Grillo Werke (for SO2).
